Question by Jason: How to raise up (out) a bathroom backsplash?
I just put in a new bathroom vanity… and there is a 3/8″ gap between the vanity top and the wall.
I bought the back splash I like and want to use… but its only about 1/8″ thick, so there would still be a gap between the back splash and the top of the vanity.
Whats the best way to lift a back splash out away from the wall? I was thinking maybe mounting a piece of water-resistant plywood or cement-board to the wall, then installing the backsplash against that. Thoughts?
Thanks!

Answer by tinman97prn Structurally that is fine. Aesthetically that large of a gap may not look that pleasing. Caulking may provide an attractive enough seam.
Who has ever heard of a bathroom without a bathroom sink? They are just that important to have. Bathrooms sink may come in different designs. It may be a bowl shaped figure or any other shape used for washing things. Most sinks come with a faucet that releases and supplies cold and hot water. Some sinks like corner sinks have a spray for quicker rinsing. Sinks have a drain used to drain water and some include a strainer that can be turned on and off that will filter the water. Bathroom sinks are always present in every bathroom as they are used for washing your hands, washing your face, brushing your teeth and many more. This type comes with other very good bathroom fixtures. Most of the time bathroom sink is thematic with other bathroom fixtures. Are You Familiar With The Wide Variety Of Bathroom Sink Designs Available Today?
Are you planning to install a new sink in your bathroom?
Installing a new sink can help create a whole new look in your bathroom. But, before you make a purchase, it is a good idea to become familiar with the various bathroom sink designs that are available today. By doing so, you can be certain to select the design that best meets your needs as well as your style.
There are five basic bathroom sink designs to select from when remodeling your bathroom. These include:
Vanity Sinks Vanity sinks are installed in cabinetry. The drop-in design fits into a hole that has been cut into the counter top, while the under-mount design is mounted under the counter. The under-mount design is most typically used with granite or marble counters, which have finished edges.
Pedestal sinks Pedestal sinks rest on a pedestal, making them a good choice for smaller bathrooms. Since they are typically just one or two pieces, and are made from marble or porcelain, they can add a sophisticated look to a bathroom. They do not, however, provide storage space like vanity sinks do.
Vessel sinks Vessel sinks rest on top of the counter, rather than being inserted into the sink. Although vessel sinks are typically round, a variety of different shapes and designs are available. Glass bathroom vessel sinksare popular, but this type of sink is also available in stone, metal and a variety of other materials. When installing a vessel sink, care must be taken to select faucets that are capable of reaching over the sink, while still keeping the handles easily accessible.
Console sinks Console sinks are mounted on the counter top, but are connected to the wall in the back and are supported by two front legs. These sinks do not have a cabinet beneath them, which reduces the amount of storage available. At the same time, the open design helps make the bathroom appear larger, and the space can still be used for storage if necessary. Due to the delicate look of console sinks, they are best suited for bathrooms that are decorated with soft tones and light colors.
Wall mounted sinks Wall mounted skins are mounted directly to the wall and, therefore, do not take up a great amount of floor space. This type of sink is typically found in public restrooms, but is sometimes found in homes as well.
By becoming familiar with the wide range of bathroom sink designs that are available today – from glass bathroom vessel sinks to marble pedestal bathroom sinks – you can better determine which ones are best suited to your individual needs and tastes.

The Importance Of The Shower Enclosure In Bathroom Design
The majority of property experts will agree that the bathroom is the second most important room in a house or flat after the kitchen, this is why improvements to a bathroom can be deemed a great investment of both time and money. A great way to bring new life to a bathroom is to install a new shower enclosure. In contemporary design circles the shower seems to have taken importance from the bath as the most hotly desired commodity in the bathroom, this is why the shower enclosure can be viewed as being extremely important. Although getting rid of the bath completely is rarely advisable, in an ideal world a bathroom that has a separate bath and shower is highly desirable.
Choosing the right shower enclosure can make or break a bathroom, it is irrelevant whether it is modern of traditional, all that is important is that it should match the rest of the room and not look completely out of place. For instance, there is little point in putting a space age shower into a bathroom that is old fashioned. Thankfully, with so many different styles of shower enclosure on the market today, all homeowners are likely to find one that matches the style of their bathroom perfectly.
As well as the different styles of shower enclosure available there are also a large number of shapes and sizes. This is probably the most important factor after style as an enclosure that is too large can look out of place and overpowering in a small bathroom; in the same respect a huge bathroom with a tiny shower will look equally strange. Deciding on the size will require careful measurement and consideration to ensure that it fits correctly and does not look out of place. As previously stated there are variances in both size and shape, of the shapes available today square shower enclosures are the most popular but in many designers’ eyes, the most uninteresting. With half moon, quadrant and pentagonal enclosures out there homeowners should consider which of these shapes are most suited to the layout of their bathroom. The right choice can truly make a bathroom luxuriant and opulent, while getting the decision wrong can mean a cramped and unsightly room.
As previously mentioned, careful planning how the shower enclosure will fit into the bathroom is an essential consideration. Decide whether your shower will sit in the corner, or against a wall in the middle of the room, there are even enclosures out there today that can stand alone. Most designers agree that if using a corner situated enclosure it is advisable to go for quarter moon or square variants as these will save the most space. For those who have the room for a large centrally located shower, choosing a pentagonal design can be extremely worthwhile and a design feature in its own right.
As part of selecting an enclosure, attention should be paid to the type of glass that will be fitted in the door and panels. Frosted glass is obviously a popular option for privacy reasons although increasingly etched designs are being used as an attractive component that compliments the design of the bathroom. As well as the glass, some may consider installing a wet room in smaller bathrooms as this will allow the shower to be free from restraint. The process is simple enough although professionals should be used as a poorly installed wet room can be devastating to the integrity of a property.
With so many options out there for homeowners the choices in bathroom design are vast. As an important room that adds to both value and way of life these decisions are vitally important. The shower is only a small part of the bathroom equation although through careful selection it can achieve a great effect.
